Heier, Sylvester "Ves" M. (12 DEC 1926 - 16 MAR 2015)
Sylvester "Ves" M. Heier, 88, Athens, died Monday, March 16, 2015 at St. Joseph
Hospital, Marshfield.
He was born December 12, 1926 in the town of Rietbrock, son of the late Adolph
and Josephine (Rosner) Heier. On November 4, 1950 he married Norma Hoge at St.
Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. She survives.
Sylvester served his country in the United States Army during World War II,
stationed in Japan and was a member of the American Legion Chapman-Belter Post
No. 4, Athens and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Andrew J. Sutter Post No. 8527,
Athens. He worked as a rural mail carrier. He also drove school bus, ambulance
and was on the Athens area fire department. After retirement he mowed lawns for
the village of Athens. In his younger years, he coached his sons fast pitch
baseball games as well as attending all of them. He was an avid Brewers fan and
enjoyed playing cards, going up North and bringing his vegetables to the fair
every year.
Survivors include his wife, Norma, Athens; children, Edward (Carolyn) Heier,
Athens, Glenn Heier, Wausau and Carol (Steve) Guralski, Edgar; grandchildren,
Randalyn (Tom Jr.) Ellenbecker, Nathan (Lindsey) Heier, Jenna (Matt)
Ellenbecker, Stephanie (Travis) Haupt, Wendy (Brandon) Rindfleisch and Bradley
(Ashley) Guralski; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Marcella Sobie and
Henrietta Klumpyan; sister-in-law, Delores Heier; brother-in-law, Harvey
Klumpyan.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Agnes, Helen,
Marie and Gertrude and two brothers, George and Lawrence.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2015 at St.
Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Rev. Paul Hoffman will preside. Burial will be
in Athens Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at
Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens, and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until
the time of services at the church. There will be a parish rosary service at
6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Athens funeral home.
