Kernz, Rica Jane (1 October 1923 - 15 March 2015)
Rica J. Kernz, 91, of Marshfield, formerly of Hartfield, died Sunday, March 15,
2015, at the Marshfield Care Center in Marshfield.
Rica Jane West was born Oct. 1, 1923, in Neillsville, the daughter of George and
Hazel (Slocumb) West. She was united in marriage to Joseph S. Kernz, Oct. 18,
1941, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. They farmed in Neillsville
for a short time before moving to Marshfield. Rica worked at Weyerhauser, LaMere
Photography and also sold Stanley Products at home while raising her family.
Rica spent time gardening and cooking and was known as a very social butterfly,
who loved to dance at the Silver Dome, play cards, visit with many family and
laugh.
Rica was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marshfield and St. Mary’s
Catholic Church in Neillsville.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Jane (Ted) Errio of Hatfield; five
grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews.
Rica was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Donny; daughters,
Kathy, Linda and Sharon; Siblings, Bud, Jim, Roy Rose, Fern, Beulah and Daisy.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015,
at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville. The Celebrant will be Rev. Varkey
V. Joseph. Providing music will be Ronald Resong, organist, and St. Mary’s
Choir. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning at
the church. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Neillsville.
