Plummer, Deveda Irene (Galgusch) (13 DEC 1922 - 15 MAR 2015)
Deveda Irene Plummer, age 93, went home to our Heavenly Father on Sunday, March
15, 2015 at Pine Ridge Assisted Living, Colby, WI.
Deveda began life during a blizzard at 1:00 am January 12, 1922, on the family
farm in the Town of Lucas, Dunn County, WI, the only child of the late Henry and
Leona (Styer) Galgusch.
She married Byron Frank "Barney" Plummer July 26, 1941 in St. Paul's Lutheran
Church, Menomonie, WI. Barney and Deveda made their home in Menomonie until
Barney's induction into the U.S. Army on January 7, 1943 during WWII. While her
husband fought the war in Burma, Deveda did her part on the home front and
worked at the Signal Battery war plant in Milwaukee making batteries for
military 2-way radios.
Barney and Deveda bought a farm at rural Granton, WI after Barney returned home
after the war, raised a family, and shared their life together on the farm until
Barney's passing on January 16, 1997. Deveda loved spending time with her family
and friends. She enjoyed dancing, gardening, animals, the nature God created,
and most of all horses her entire life - still being in the saddle at age 89
despite her failing eyesight. She often spoke of her grandfather who was a
trooper in the 1st Wisconsin Cavalry during the Civil War, his escapades, and
wounds he received.
Deveda's mind stayed sharp as a tack until the end and she possessed a quick
wit, a good sense of humor, and an unshakable faith. Her failed eyesight in
later years was a difficult condition to endure, but with strength of mind and
faith in God, courageously endure she did. Deveda did her best to greet all who
called upon her with a lighthearted smile and was loved by all.
Deveda leaves behind two children, Boyd (Sandee) Plummer, rural Owen, and Sandy
(Ronald) Post, rural Marshfield, nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren,
six great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
She was preceded in death, but is now reunited with her parents, her husband
Barney, son Charles Plummer, daughter Karey Kolbo, grandson Jimmie Fay, and two
great- grandsons Derek Post, Sr. and Gabriel Prekezes. Ride on cowgirl, happy
trails. Bye, bye for now.
