Nelson, Edwin T. (13 November 1889 - 27 September 1973)
A former Shortville area resident, Edwin T. Nelson, 83, of Monroe, died
September 27, at Pleasant View Nursing Home where he had been admitted August
31. He had been in ill health for the past two years. Funeral services were held
September 29 from the New-corner Funeral Home, Monroe, and burial was in
Greenwood Cemetery.
Edwin Nelson, the son of Gustav and Matilda Nelson, was born November 13, 1889,
in Sloan, Ia. On October 9, 1922, he married the former Sara Boyer in Omaha,
Neb., where they lived from 1923 until 1947. Mr. Nelson worked as a bookkeeper
and an accountant for a railroad contracting firm and for his brother’s
contracting, painting and decorating business. Upon retiring, the couple lived
on a farm near the Shortville store for about 15 years before moving to Monroe
in 1961.
He is survived by his widow; a brother, Chester, Omaha; and by two sisters, Mrs.
Elsie Graham, Sioux City, Ia., and Mrs. Florence Shannon, La Feria, TX.
