Several parents from Owen motored to Camp Phillips a week ago this evening where
they visited their sons attending the Scout camp and witnessed the impressive
Order of the Arrow ceremony. Making the trip were Mr. and Mrs. Donald Rinehart,
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bredlau, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mahoney, Val Couillard, Mrs. B.C.
Cattanach, Mrs. Clarence Kitze, Mrs. Margaret Gardner and Mrs. Caroline
Gummerson.
Saturday forenoon Jack Barager accompanied his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Peg
Berg of Beaver Dam and their son, John, to Hayward, after they had spent Friday
evening at the Barager cottage. They vacationed at the Emma Wiles cottage on
round Lake until yesterday forenoon, when they returned to their home in Beaver
Dam, with Jack continuing there with them for an extended visit.
Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Baxter of Richland Center, Wis. and Mrs. Levica Randel of
Portland, Maine visited at the Cecil Looker home last week.
Visiting over the weekend with their mother, Mrs. L.W. Cattanach, were Mr. and
Mrs. Lewis Cattanach of Boscobel, Mr. and Mrs. James Cattanach and family of
Menomonee, Mich., and Mrs. Huber Glenzer Jr. and children, Marci and John, of
Springfield, Va. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Bert Cattanach and sons, and Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Cattanach and family of Stanley joined with them at Stanley Park for
a picnic dinner.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Whalen and daughter, Wendy, of Gonzales, Calif., and Mrs.
Dale Bowen of Milwaukee visited at the home of Mrs. L.W. Cattanach.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Whalen and daughter and Mrs. Dale Bowen and daughters
returned to their home Sunday after spending a week at the home of their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Glenzer Sr.
Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Dickinson and three sons of Clarissa, Minn. called at the
home of Levi Dickinson Wednesday enroute home from their vacation.
Out of town relatives attending the funeral services for Arthur E. Dickinson
Saturday, July 24 were Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Dickinson, Menomonee Falls, Wis., Mr.
and Mrs. Earl Walter, Winona, Minn., Mrs. Frank Ischida, Chippewa Falls, Wis.,
Mr. and Mrs. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Dickinson and son, Wally, Clarissa, Minn., and
Robert Dickinson, Big Fork, Minn.
Dr. John Peden returned to the city Wednesday evening of last week and spent the
remainder of the week here with friends. He formerly practice medicine here
before leaving to travel. Since his last visit here a year ago, he has been in
Africa and Scotland. He now intends to attend the University of Colorado at
Denver, where he will take some specialist work in surgery.
Visiting last Tuesday and Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Graham
was his sister, Mrs. Roenna Bielicki of Ottumwa, Ia. This week, arriving on
Sunday and remaining for a week visit is another sister and husband, Mr. and
Mrs. Herman Reichert of Muscatine, Ia.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Graham drove to Winnetka, Ill. over the weekend, returning
with their daughter, Kathy, who has been employed in a home here.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Anderson of East Chicago, Ind., spent Saturday to Thursday
of this week visiting at the home of her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Axel Lindgren,
and with other relatives. For the past month they have been vacationing at a
cottage at Chetek.
Mrs. Hubert Glenzer and children left from eau Claire by plane and returned to
their home in Virginia after visiting here the past ten days at the home of her
mother, Mrs. L.W. Cattanach.
Wednesday Alice Mauel and Kitty Schreve arrived at the home of their parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mauel Sr., after spending the past week visiting at the
Eugene Lehmer cottage at Tomahawk. Kitty Schreve spent the last three weeks
helping with the children as well as vacationing. Alice will vacation at home
for a week.
Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Pabich returned home from a business and pleasure trip
which took them to Florida the past two weeks.
John Schliefe is now attending a six week summer course at the University of
Wisconsin Civil Engineer camp at Grandview. He left here on the 18th of July and
is getting practical training in surveying and work in his engineering course.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Poppe returned to their home in Abbotsford after spending
the past 14 days on a vacation trip to the east coast where they took in the New
York World's Fair and went sightseeing in the eastern area. At Washington, D.C.
they went through the United State Capitol and other buildings. Enroute home
they visited Mrs. Poppe's brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jack R. Poppe, at
Columbus, Ohio.
Mr. and Mrs. Celand Melbinger, son Lonny, and Randy Bergstrom visited at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wollum at Eagle River Sunday, July 18. Enroute home
they stopped in Minocqua to eat at the Paul Bunyan, and saw Jean Barager, who
works there in a gift shop.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Weddig from Merrill attended the wedding of their nephew,
Con Peterson, at Cornell Saturday, the 17th. Mrs. Weddig's sister, Mrs. Emily
Lee, who has been visiting relatives in Minneapolis, accompanied them home and
will remain here for a few weeks.
Members of the Owen Scout troupe and their Scout master, Clark Couillard,
returned from camp Saturday. Furnishing transportation home, along with
Couillard, were Mrs. George Gardner, Mrs. Harry Dempsey, Henry Mauel Jr. and
Bert Cattanach.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Knuth of Sheboygan spent from Tuesday to Saturday visiting
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wolfram.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Myhre, Miss Joyce Borche of Kenosha, Mrs. Henry Myre of
Stanley and Mr. and Mrs. Rodger Wolfram of Eau Rodger Wolfram of Eau Claire
visited Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wolfram.
Jim Ryman spent Thursday of last week in eau Claire where he attended a day long
clinic on color photography.
