Tonn, Arthur H. (24 APR 1888 – 29 JUL 1965)
Funeral services for Arthur H. Tonn were conducted from St. Paul's Lutheran
Church at Curtiss Saturday, July 31. Rev. Roger Tellock officiated at the final
rites, with burial being made at the Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery at Curtiss.
Pallbearers were George Lindau, Earl Schiszik, Cornel Erickson, William
Wainscott, John Strassburer, and William Manglos.
During the service Mrs. Art Petke, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Toivo
Kallio, sang "Jesus Savior Pilot Me" and "Asleep in Jesus."
Mr. Tonn succumbed to a heart condition at 1:40 a.m., July 29, 1965, passing
away at St. Francis Hospital in Kewaunee, Ill.
Born April 24, 1888 in the town of Hoard, Clark County, he made his home in this
area until his retirement in 1955. The past nine years he had made his home in
Illinois. In October 1910 he was united in marriage to the former Lena
Pribbernow in a ceremony performed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Curtiss.
During the many years he resided in the Curtiss area he was an active member of
St. Paul's parish and served in several different official capacities.
In addition to arming he worked as head sawyer in lumber mill of the area, and
also did some work as a carpenter.
Survivors include two sons, Rohland of Mendota, Ill, and Byron of Kewaunee,
Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. Wilho (Pearl) Maki, Longview, Wash., and Mrs. Harold (Lyrl)
Heckman, Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Wm. (Anna) Koart, San Gabriel, Calif.,
and Mrs. Ray (Hattie) Staples, Medford; six grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1958, and three
brothers, one sister and a son.
Attending the services from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Rohland Ton, Mendota,
Ill.; Byron Tonn, Kewaunee, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Staples, Medford; Martin
Nissen, Glidden; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Walker, West Brooklyn, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs.
Ernest Pribbernow, Brookfield; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Heckman, Chicago; Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Shae, Gillette; Mr. and Mrs. L. Georgran, Chicago; and Mr. and Mrs.
John Warnke, Abbotsford.
