Miss Helen Mary Eloranta, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin J. Eloranta, route 1,
Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), was given in marriage by her father to Neil Peter Vater,
formerly of route 1, Owen, where his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Neil F. Vater reside,
during a 2 p.m. nuptial ceremony Saturday, July 31, 1965.
Scene of the wedding was Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee, with the Rev. Beryl
Knudsen officiating. Bouquets of white gladioli and yellow carnations decorated
the church altar.
Miss Bunee Kraut sang "Wedding Prayer" and "The Lord's Prayer," with Miss Louise
Hansen presiding at the organ.
When the bride entered the church with her father she was wearing a white
taffeta and lace floor length gown featuring a scalloped neckline. Her veil of
tulle was attached to a headpiece of pearls and her bouquet consisted of white
chrysanthemums, white stephanotis, yellow roses and ivy.
Miss Shirley Jensen, Withee, the maid of honor, and Miss Claudia Tesch,
Schofield, the bridesmaid, wore street length full skirted yellow lace and
taffeta frocks made with scalloped necklines. They carried bouquets of white
pompons and yellow roeses.
James Eloranta, Owen, was the best man; Jack Vater, La Crosse, the groomsman;
and Tracy Hansen, Withee, and John Eloranta, Owen, the ushers.
The newlyweds will live in Platteville after returning from a trip through the
western United States and into Canada.
Mr. Vater, who attended Wausau Technical Institute, graduating in 1964, is a
tool designer for John Deere at Dubuque, Ia. His wife, who attended the
University of Wisconsin, Madison for two years, will attend the Wis. State
University, Platteville this fall. She is a member of Sigma Epsilon Sigma
honorary Sorority.
Guests at the wedding included Mrs. Myrtle Munson, Green Bay; Mrs. Ruth Moody,
Madison; Mrs. Alice Jone and daughter, Mary, Randolph; Mrs. Jessie Johnson and
Mrs. Fred Johnson and children, La Crosse; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Calkins and
children, St. Paul; Miss Anne Peterson, Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Peterson and
daughter, Sue, and Nels Peterson, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Eloranta and
daughters, Sandra, Nancy and Barbara, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; Miss Elaine Hohman,
Schofield; Miss Sandra Kangas, Waukegan, Ill.; Miss Connie Engle, Valparaiso,
Ind.; and Mr. and Mrs. Vic Jessen and Harlan, and Patsy Jessen, Neillsville.
