On page 8 of this issue of The Enterprise is an advertisement offering 50
sensationally low priced specials offered by Haselow Hardware, city, who this
week begins observance of their 30th business anniversary in Owen (Clark Co.,
Wis.).
In recalling the firm’s history, Elmer said that he almost located in Cornell
when he was first looking for a business site. Owen eventually proved to be his
choice, with the building now housing Mid-State Equipment at the north end of
Central avenue, being the business’ first home.
Elmer says, “We’re like the great society, we’ve got something for everyone.”
There is more truth than poetry in that statement, and as a result the business
demands for space exceeded those available, so a building program developed. It
was delayed somewhat because of World War II building restrictions, but finally
in 1947 Haselow Hardware occupied its present location on Fifth Street.
Cotter & Co., one of the largest hardware suppliers in the nation, is the source
of practically all of their merchandise, supplying more than 1803 store
throughout the central and eastern states. The firm is a progressive one, as
reflected in their grown of 245 outlets in 1955, as compared with the present
day figure.
