St. John’s Lutheran Church of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) has voted to build a new
church until, including educational facilities in 1967. Secret ballots sent to
every family were opened in congregational meeting Sunday, Dec. 5, 1965.
A building committee will be appointed soon. Decisions as to type of building
and its location will be made and announced in the coming months. A building
study committee began work on the project more than a year ago, presenting its
recommendations to build to the congregation last fall. A that time the members
voted to build a new building and to bring the date to a vote this year.
Rev. L.A. Urman, pastor of St. John’s, in a letter to the congregation stated:
“We have purposed to build a house unto the name of the Lord Our God, is the
message that St. John’s Lutheran of Withee will carry to this community in the
coming years.
“And may all our members, together with this community, rejoice greatly. Let us
rejoice greatly that we will have a more adequate sanctuary to worship God. Let
us rejoice that we will have more adequate teaching facilities. Let us rejoice
greatly that we will have a better place for social gatherings.
“Building means many things. It means headaches, much work, and sacrificial
giving. Above all, it means a rare privilege of showing in wood and brick and
stone how much our Lord means to us. We thank God, therefore, for the
opportunity to say with Solomon, “I purpose to build a house unto the name of
the Lord My God.”
