Haaya, Johanna (2 MAY 1885 – 1 DEC 1965)
Graveside rites were conducted at Riverside Cemetery Monday afternoon, Jan. 3
for Mrs. Emil (Johanna) Haaya, a former resident of this city (Owen, Clark Co.,
Wis.).
She passed away Dec. 1, 1965 after an illness of three months at her home in
Milwaukee where she has resided since leaving here in 1941.
Memorial services were held at the Schmidt and Bartelt Funeral Home in Milwaukee
Sunday evening, Jan. 2and then the burial service here Monday.
The deceased was born May 2, 1885 in Finland, coming to this country in 1903,
settling at Jaffrey, N.H. From there the family moved to Hibbing, Minn., where
she met the late Emil Haaya, whom she married on Oct. 27, 1908. They made their
home at Aurora, Minn. until Octobert 1916, when they moved to Owen where Mr.
Haaya operated a grocery store. After his accidental death in 1941, Mrs. Haaya
moved to Milwaukee to be near her children, and has made her home there ever
since.
She is survived by a son, Donald E. Haaya, of Milwaukee, and a daughter, Mrs.
W.K. (Thelma) Pool, also of Milwaukee; three grandchildren, Mary E. Haaya and
Donald E. Haaya Jr., and Kenneth Pool; one daughter-in-law and one son-in-law.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a brother, Alex Mattson,
in 1964.
