Washburn (18 October 1973)

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Short returned home Saturday after spending a week in Verona and Janesville. Mr. and Mrs. Don Stewart of Verona came after her parents October 6, driving down through the cranberry marshes south of City Point to Camp Douglas and Mauston on state and county roads, through the hills to Highway 14 and 18. It was a beautiful colorama all the way to and around Highway 14; there the color was just beginning to change. The colorful trees were just at their right stage to be beautiful. The Stewarts drove Saturday through Door County and trees were at their beauty peak there, also. The Shorts spent from Sunday until Thursday with the Stewarts, then went to Janesville and visited his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bell and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Regenberg, until Saturday, when Mr. and Mrs. Regenberg and Mr. and Mrs. Bell brought them home and spent Saturday night and Sunday at the Short home, returning home Sunday. The trees were at their beauty stage at Janesville, Verona and Madison this weekend, but colors weren’t as bright and colorful as we came north.

They were surprised as they stopped at a restaurant in Mauston Saturday and met Mrs. William Tullis, son, George, and her grandsons, Mark and Kevin Hartenson of Waukesha, who were on their way to Neillsville to visit her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Louie Schultz.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lincoln and her father, Ed Felgenhauer, drove to Harvard, Il., Sunday for the visitation of her brother-in-law, Ray Zimmerman. The funeral was held Monday, but there were unable to attend.

Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Williams left Friday on a few days’ trip to Missouri.

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kapfer returned home Sunday evening from a 12-day trip to Kentucky, Ohio, Missouri and Iowa. They visited an uncle and aunt at Dayton, Ky., cousins is Lucasville, Oh.; and other relatives in Missouri and Iowa. They drove to West Bend October 3 and spent the night with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kapfer, and Thursday morning accompanied his brother and wife on the trip. They returned to West Bend Saturday evening. Then Sunday morning drove to Juneau, where they were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Aason, former Cannonville and Shortville residents, returning home Sunday evening.

Mr and Mrs. Harold Ammentorp of Milwaukee spent a weekend with her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Urban, and attended the wedding of a relative in Withee. Mr. and Mrs. Ammentorp, Mr. and Mrs. Urban and daughter, Brenda, and Mrs. Irving Stevens, were dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. David Vine.

Mr. and Mrs. Bud Elberts of Spirit Lake, Ia., arrived Friday to visit her mother, Mrs. Art. Odell.

Ardell Syth and fiancée of Eau Claire, Mr. and Mrs. John Reinart, sons, Wayne and Lee, daughter, Judy, Kent Lonning and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Reinart were guests Sunday of Mr and Mrs. Herman Dahnert.

Mr. and Mrs. Herb Filitz called Saturday at the Mrs. Art Odell home.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Urban and daughter, Brenda, and Mrs. Irving Stevens, visited in Eau Claire Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. Bud Elberts and Mrs. Art Odell called Sunday at the Richard Qualley home.

Mrs. Frank Herrman and mother, Mrs. Magnus Romfoe, of Gilman, were guests Sunday of their sister and daughter, Mrs. Harold Elmendorf.

Misses’ Linda and Judeen Dopp and lady friend, all of Marshfield, called on their grandmother, Mrs. Irving Stevens Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Havlicek, Sr., called Thursday at the Mrs. Art Odell home.

Barbara Wnuczynski of Eau Claire visited Mr. and Mrs. Charles Havlicek Saturday.

Bible Study will be held at the Francis Jacobson home in Sherwood.

Mrs. Paul Kuhn, who was a patient at Memorial Hospital, returned home Sunday and is staying with her sister, Mrs. George Allbaugh, where she will spend the winter.
