Darling, Alex (April Junior Kiwanian - 2015)

April Junior Kiwanian

Alex Darling - April Junior Kiwanian

Serving the youth of the community and helping to ensure they have the encouragement and support to meet life’s challenges is a central focus of Kiwanis clubs across the nation. At the local level, clubs engage in activities and projects that help to carry out this mission. A good example of this commitment to youth is the Junior Kiwanian program, which has been as on-going feature of the club for more than 50 years.

The Neillsville Kiwanis Club is please to have Alex Darling as our Junior Kiwanian for the month of April, and welcomes her as she participates in our Monday meetings for the month. She is the daughter of Brian and Shawn Darling and is a senior at Neillsville High School. She was introduced to club members by Kiwanian Herman Seebandt at the April 6, Meeting.

As with many of the selected Junior Kiwanians, Darling excels academically, is involved in school-related clubs and other activities yet still finds time to connect with the community in useful ways. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish Club and has served three years on the student council. In addition, she is the current yearbook editor and was involved in the last year’s production of ‘Bye Bye Birdie.’ In the community, she has volunteered at the Clark County Humane Society and at Neillsville Care and Rehab. Darling has been employed at Hardee’s as a cook and as an assistant teacher at Stepping Stones Daycare.

This highly motivated student has plans to attend UW-Whitewater next fall, where she will pursue a career in elementary education.

The Junior Kiwanian program of the Neillsville Kiwanis Club gives recognition to outstanding senior students, while providing an introduction to the concept of a service organization and emphasizing active participation in the community throughout the lifespan. The club welcomes Alex Darling and looks forward to her participation in the April meeting.
