Zassenhaus, John F. (6 JUN 1946 - 23 MAY 2015)

John F. Zassenhaus, age 68, of Colby, lost his year-long battle with pancreatic cancer on Saturday, May 23, 2015 in the Palliative Care Unit of Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield with his loving family at his side.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 29, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby. Father Daniel Hackel will officiate. Inurnment will be held at a later date at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Colby. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 AM until time of service Friday at the church.

John was born on June 6, 1946, the son of William and Pauline (Bond) Zassenhaus in WI. He graduated from Colby High School in 1965 and joined the Army National Guard. On September 28, 1968, John was united in marriage to Sandra Kilty at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby.

John worked various jobs before becoming owner/operator of his own trucking company. He traveled throughout the Midwest for thirty years making many friends along the way. The last 14 years he was employed by Badger State Western as the Maintenance Supervisor.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, reloading firearm shells, and animals (especially his dog, Bear). He never met a stranger, his family recalls, as John thoroughly enjoyed talking to people, even those he did not know.

John is survived by his wife, Sandy of 46 years of Colby; his daughter, Stacy (Mathew) Kundinger of Arpin; two grandsons: Cody (Jasmine) Kundinger and Kyle Kundinger, both of Stratford. He is further survived by his brother, Charles (Theresa) Zassenhaus of Dorchester; two sisters-in-law, Sharon (Don) Smart of Colby and Darlene Andre of Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Pauline.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in his honor to the Clark County Humane Society, Neillsville.
