Wirkus, Alvina M. (Hall) (22 MAR 1924 - 5 FEB 2015)

Alvina M. Wirkus, 90, Edgar, died Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Golden Living Center Three Oaks in Marshfield, under the care of Aseracare Hospice.

She was born March 22, 1924 in the town of Cassel, daughter of the late Arthur and Agatha (Knoeck) Hall.

On November 15, 1945, she married Jerome A. Wirkus at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. He survives.

Alvina was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Edgar and a member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women at St. John Catholic Church. Among her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed bowling, playing cards, crossword puzzles, ceramics, sewing, golfing, reading and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and Milwaukee Brewers fan. Alvina also loved tending to her flowers and plants and was an excellent cook and baker.

Survivors include her husband of almost 70 years, Jerry Wirkus, Edgar; four children, Richard (Grace) Wirkus, Edgar, Roger Wirkus, Wausau, Marge (Jim) Michalski, Waupaca and John Wirkus, Edgar; five grandchildren, Barb (Doug) Brehm, Kelly (Tom) Bauman, Tim (Laura) Michalski, Kimberly (Ryan) Henning and Megan (Ben) Gudex; four great-grandchildren, Simon, Everet, Landon and Spencer; three sisters, Catherine Myszka, Edgar, Delphine Wadzinski, Wausau and Jeanette LaPean, Wausau; three brothers-in-law, Melvin Wirkus, Clinton, Wis., Lawrence (Joan) Wirkus, Edgar and Edward Wirkus, Edgar; her special friend and roommate, Lorraine; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Viola Wadzinski, Corinne Kasmirski and Marion Skrzypchak.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 9, 2015 at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. Rev. Robert Streveler will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar and again on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. There will be a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to friends Joanne and Kris and the staff at Golden Living Center Three Oaks and the staff at Aseracare Hospice for the outstanding care and support given to Alvina. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John Catholic Church, Edgar.
