Soeller, Alex W. (15 January 1896 - 29 October 1973)
Alex W. Soeller, 77, of Thorp, died October 29 in Victory Memorial nursing home
in Stanley of a lingering illness.
Mr. Soeller was born January 15, 1896, at Campbellsport. He was married November
9, 1920, to Rosetta Smasal. He was a Veteran of World War I. A cheesemaker all
his life owned and operated Breezy Hill Cheese Factory at Thorp for 26 years,
which he sold in 1951. They moved to the city of Thorp and he did cheese making
and janitorial work until his illness.
Surviving are his wife and two daughters: Mrs. Ervin (Dorothy) Geisler of
Greenwood, and Mrs. Viola Kumbera of Milwaukee; seven grandchildren: Arden
Geisler of Greenwood; Mrs. Ray Hug, Roger and Joseph Kumbera of Milwaukee; Mrs.
Don Ulberg of Osseo, Mn; Mrs. Bob Clocki and Geraldine Soeller of California.
There are eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held October 31 at 10 a.m. from St. Bernard’s Catholic
Church in Thorp. The Rev. Francis Brockman officiated. Burial was made in the
parish cemetery. Officers and members of the Catholic Order of Foresters were
pallbearers. The American Legion attended in a group and conducted military
rites.

Soeller, Alex (15 Jan 1896 – 29 Oct 1973)
Alex Soeller, 77, died of a lingering illness at Victory Memorial Nursing Home,
Stanley, on October 29, 1973. Funeral services were conducted at St. Bernard’s
Catholic Church, October 31, 1973, with Rev. Francis Brockman officiating at the
ten a.m. service. Interment was made in the parish cemetery. American Legion
members attended in a group and conducted military rites.
Pallbearers were members of the Catholic Order of Foresters: Ray Baldeschwiler,
Marvin Verkuilen, Irvin Ketterhage, Gilber Voelker Jr., Joe Truckey, and Pat
Soderberg. Honorable pallbearers were: John Maier, George Maier, Leo Dulek,
Harley Hoffman and Gilbert Voelker.
Mr. Soeller, a retired cheesemaker, was born January 15, 1896 at Campbellsport,
Wis. On November 9, 1920 he was united in marriage at Sacred Heart Catholic
Church, Edson, to Rosetta Smasal. He was a World War I Veteran, a cheesemaker at
West Worden and Maple Hill factories, Stanley. In 1925 he purchased the Breezy
Hill factor, south of Thorp. In 1951 he sold to Erving Schilling, moving to
Thorp. He did cheese making at the Ed Franz and Meske factories until illness
caused him to retire.
Surviving are his wife, Rosetta; two daughters, (Dorothy) Mrs. Ervin Geisler,
Greenwood, Mrs. Viola Kumbera, Milwaukee; seven grandchildren, Arden Geisler,
Greenwood, Mrs. Ray Hug, roger and Joseph Kumbera, Milwaukee, Mrs. Don Ulberg,
Osseo, Minn., Mrs. Robert Olocki and Miss Geraldine soeller, California, and
eight great-grandchildren. His only son, Robert, died December 14, 1964.
