Izydorek, Donald Raymond “Izzy” (1 August 1936 - 6 June 2015) With Flag
Donald R. “Izzy” Izydorek, age 78, of Thorp, passed away at his home, surrounded
by his family, on Saturday June 6, 2015. Visitation will be held at Thorp
Funeral home on Friday, June 12, 2015, from 9 a.m. unto 12 p.m., with a memorial
service to follow conducted by Rev. John Sindler. Private burial of cremains
will take place at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
Donald Raymond Izydorek was born on August 1, 1936, in Thorp, WI, the son f
Raymond V. and Theresa (Keideth) Izydorek. He was raised in Thorp, received his
elementary education at St. Bernard’s Catholic School and graduated from Thorp
High School in 1954. After completing his education, Don enlisted into the u. S.
Air Force in the fall of 1954. He received his basic training at Lackland AFB in
San Antonio, TX and later was stationed at Walker AFB in Roswell, NM. He was
united in marriage to Marjorie D. Cook on December 1, 1956, at St. Hedwig’s
Chapel in Thorp. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Thorp and worked
at Thorp IGA and for Howie Sturtz at WCCN Radio at Neillsville. Don attended
UW-Eau Claire and the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science, in Milwaukee,
graduating in 1963. He returned to Thorp and worked with his father, Raymond,
for 10 years. He purchased Thorp Funeral Home in April 1969, and operated the
business until retiring in September 2000.
Don was a member of of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church, the Thorp
American Legion, the Thorp Moose Lodge, and a member of the Thorp Volunteer Fire
and Ambulance Department for many years.
He had many interests, but especially enjoyed playing golf, watching the Packers
and Badgers, spending time at his hunting shack, his morning coffee at the
Thorpedo, and his daily visits to Cindy’s.
Don will be dearly missed by his wife, Marge, of Thorp; two daughters: Kim
(Jerry) Kobylarczyk of Thorp, Kelly Izydorek of Eau Claire; three grandchildren:
Jeremy (Amy) Olson, Kaleigh Kobylarczyk (J.D. Marquardt), and Jace Kobylarczyk
(Alex Andrea Stammer); three great-grandchildren: Jacoby, Channing and Zac; two
sisters: Karen (Art) Alger of Hudson, Raeleen (Marv) Jarvis of Apple Valley, MN;
one aunt, Dottie Rasmussen of Lake Mills, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives
and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Don took great pride in the service he provided to the Thorp community, and
always carried a piece of grief with him for every family he served. His wit and
great sense of humor will truly be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, Don’s family requests that memorials be directed to Hope
Hospice and Palliative Care, 537 W. Broadway, Medford, WI, 54451.
