Orheim, Jeffrey (? - 12 November 1973)
A fourteen year old Thorp boy drowned in a farm pond northwest of that city
Monday afternoon after falling through thin ice on the water, according to Clark
County Coroner Robert Lulloff.
The boy, Jeffery Orheim, was hunting with a friend, Steve Olson, when the two
apparently came near the pond and began “skating on the ice,” Lulloff stated.
“The ice was just too thin,” the coroner added, and young Orheim fell through
the collapsing thin crust about 50 feet from the shore.
Olson at first tried to rescue Orheim but failed and then ran the one and three
quarter miles back to Thorp where he called Thorp police chief Richard Boie.
Time of the drowning was place at 2:00 p.m. with the recovery of the body by the
Thorp fire department and rescue squad listed at 3:20 p.m. The body was in eight
feet of water.
Orheim, a freshman at Thorp High School, is survived by his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Alfred Orheim and six sisters.
Arrangements are being made by the Thorp Funeral Home.
