Schmitt, Cecil (31 DEC 1921 – 8 JUN 1966)

Funeral services for Cecil Schmitt were conducted at 9 o'clock Saturday morning from the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home, city. Rev. Richard Hewetson of St. Katherine's Episcopal Church officiated, with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were William Stolp, Nick LePage, Harold Krarup, Jerry Christophersen, Melvin Jarchow and Emery Sorenson.

Cecil Schmitt, a resident of Owen for 29 years, died of a heart attack shortly after awakening early Wednesday morning, June 8. The attack occurred at his home while he was still in bed, and came as a surprise to everyone, as he apparently was in good health and had worked a 10 hour day the day previous at Foremost Dairies, where he had been employed for 24 years.

Born Dec. 31, 1921 at Abbotsford, he came to Owen when a youth of 15 years. When 20 years of age he joined the Foremost Dairies and had been with them ever since as a truck driver and later as dispatcher with the trucking department. At a recognition banquet held here by the company in April he was presented with a trophy for having a safe driving record for 15 years. He also had a service record extending over two years, from 1942 to 1944, when he served with the U.S. Army.

On Dec. 11, 1954, he and the former Evelyn Hautamaki were united in marriage, and the couple has one son, Jerome, 10. Other survivors are three brothers, Henry, Marshfield; Sylvester, Cudahy; and Arnold, Milwaukee.Obit:
