MRS. R. O. WHIPPLE CALLED BY DEATH
Wife of County Sheriff Passes Away Yesterday Afternoon After Long Illness
Mrs. Robert O. Whipple, wife of the sheriff of Rock county, passed away
yesterday afternoon at 12:40 o’clock at the residence at the county jail. Mrs.
Whipple had been in ill health since last December. All that loving care and the
constant attention of her husband, mother and nurses could do helped to lighten
her suffering, but she failed steadily. Through it all she was cheerful and
uncomplaining, seeking only to make others around her happy.
Linda Gering Whipple was born in Beloit on Dec. 6, 1889. On Dec. 19, 1906, she
was married to Robert O. Whipple of Beloit, the present county sheriff. Mrs.
Whipple was a young woman of winning personality, and gained a host of admiring
friends through her cheery and kindly disposition. Of rare strength of
character, she possessed a generous and loving nature and was greatly devoted to
her home and family. She leaves a beautiful memory which will long live in the
hearts of all who knew her. Besides her husband she is survived by a daughter,
Margaret, aged six. Her mother and one sister, Mrs. E. A. Bittel of Beloit, also
survive.
The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at two o’clock from the
residence at the jail. The services will be conducted by the Rev. Breicher of
Beloit. Mrs. Whipple was a member of the German Lutheran church. After the
funeral services, the body will be taken by auto to Beloit for interment in the
Beloit city cemetery.
