Betty Clausen, Thorp High School, has been named winner of a $25 U.S. Savings
Bond in the Eleventh Annual Thorp Finance Foundation Scholarship Competition,
according to Frank Wadzinski, manager of the Thorp office.
Betty is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Clausen, who live at Thorp (Clark
Co.), Wis.
The competition for two $1,000 scholarships for use at any Wis. College or
University accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary
Schools was open to all Wisconsin high school seniors.
Selection fo bond winners was based on essays written on one of two topics: "A
Person Who Has Influenced My Life" and "How Can Credit Affect My Life?"
Ten finalists will be selected frofm the bond winners in each of Thorp's office
districts. A committee of educators will pick the two winners from that group on
their essays, academic standing and other achievements. Announcement of the two
top awards will be made in late March, according to Francis J. Conway, Chairman
of Thorp Finance Corporation.
