Berghammer, Muriel Georgia (Hopperdietzel) (17 NOV 1925 - 22 JUN 2015)
Muriel Georgia Berghammer, 89, Wausau, died June 22, 2015 at Aspirus Wausau
Hospital.
She was born November 17, 1925, in the Town of Halsey, the fourth of eleven
children born to George and Lillian (Marth) Hopperdietzel. On February 2, 1946,
Muriel married Gilbert Berghammer at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wausau.
Together, they had seven children. He preceded her in death on December 8, 1969.
On October 27, 1978, she married Stanley Bochanyin in Watertown, SD, they later
divorced.
As a teenager, Muriel worked as the 2nd maid for the Woodson family, and later
at the Pentagon cafeteria. After she was married and until 1970, Muriel worked
on the Berghammer family farm in the Town of Halsey. She also worked for many
years at Fromm Brothers, Inc. in Hamburg, for 12 years as a cook at St.
Anthony's Catholic School in Athens, and at Mullins Cheese.
Muriel was an active and adventurous spirit who loved to travel. She visited all
50 states and many countries, including Mexico, Japan, China, Russia, Poland,
Germany, Austria, Belgium and Holland, to name a few. Among her favorite
pastimes were bowling, shooting pool, knitting, crocheting, making crafts,
gardening, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Muriel volunteered her time to
support local organizations to include Junior Bowling, Special Olympics, and
medaled in Senior Olympics.
She was an avid reader and also enjoyed researching genealogy. She loved games
of all kinds including board games, cards and dice. Muriel was a huge fan of the
Milwaukee Brewers and kept stats for years on every game. A gifted musician,
