Granton (22 November 1973)
The Rev. Roland Roehrs delivered his farewell sermons Sunday morning at Zion
Lutheran Church and at Christ Lutheran Church, Chili. Following the 10:30 a.m.
worship at Zion, members of both congregations gathered at the Granton church
for a fellowship meal.
Rev. Roehrs, who served the two churches for the past six years, accepted a call
to St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Luxemburg in October. The Roehrs family moved
Monday.
Mrs. Robert Parkinson of Toronto, Canada, visited recently with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Wilbert Goebel.
Miss Ruth Pietenpol, Miss Daphne Beeckler and Mrs. Verla Hales visited at
Memorial Hospital and Memorial Home Monday afternoon.
Granton Senior Citizens viewed a slide program on Hawaii at their monthly
meeting held last Tuesday evening. Mr. Johnson of Greenwood, who took the photos
while on a recent visit to the Islands, showed the slides and explained them.
Mrs. Johnson was also a guest at the meeting, which was hosted by Mr. and Mrs.
Ray Sternitzky and Mrs. Amelia Meddaugh. A Christmas potluck meal is planned for
the December 11 meeting.
Mrs. George Hales is hospitalized in Milwaukee where she has been living with
her daughter.
Mr and Mrs. Neil Fero and family of Milwaukee spent the weekend with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Fero. They will return Wednesday night for the
Thanksgiving holiday and will stay for the remainder of the deer hunting season.
Mrs. Otto Schmidtke and her sister, Mrs. Norman Freedlund of Sherwood, visited
their aunt, Mrs. Pearle Homes in Hancock Monday.
Miss Daphne Beeckler and Mrs. William Schmidtke are to be Thanksgiving dinner
guests of Miss Mabel Williams.
Van Kayser has returned home from Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Verla hales entertained the Romadka Homemaker Club at her home Thursday
afternoon. Members planned a Christmas party to be held at the home of Mrs. Emil
Henninger.
Ross Foster of Bakersfield, Ca., the brother of Mrs. Lloyd Spry, died last week
following a heart attack.
Thursday evening guests at the home of Mrs. William Schmidtke were Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Summers of Spencer, Mrs. Stella Stevens of loyal and Mrs. Otto Schmidtke.
Miss Pearle Beeckler is a patient at Memorial Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Roland Gitzlaff of Brookfield called on their aunt, Mrs. Verla
Hales one day last week.
