Krueger, Louis (Evades Arrest – 30 SEP 1918)
Leslie and Louis Krueger were seen north of Loyal last Saturday and their
presence reported to the officers. They were again seen Monday afternoon near
the farm of Wesley Stout, five miles north of Loyal. One of the boys, presumably
Leslie, appeared at the home of Mrs. Herman Wolfe on Monday afternoon and made
threatening remarks because their presence had been reported to the officers by
a sister of Mrs. Wolfe, intimating that they would shoot Mrs. Wolfe if she aided
in their capture by reporting their presence. Monday afternoon a posse from
Loyal and home guards from Neillsville searched the country north of Loyal, but
the Kruegers evidently had sensed danger and skipped out. Evidences were
discovered of their having slept in a barn near the Wolfe farm, but no trace of
the fugitives was found. When shown a poster containing the picture of the two
Krueger boys, Mrs. Wolfe immediately placed her finger on the picture of Leslie
as the man who had appeared at their farm and threatened her. There is no doubt
but that the fugitives are in hiding in that vicinity and it does not seem
possible that they can much longer evade arrest.
