Hewett (17 Oct 1918)

Willie Beulow came home from Camp Grant Friday to visit with the home folks over Sunday. He returned to camp Monday.

Hewettville experienced a big fire Saturday and Sunday. Nearly every farmer was in town Saturday when the fire was started west of Wedges Creek. About the hardest wind we have had this fall was blowing from the northwest, making it look as though the fire was nearer than it was in the afternoon. Mrs. Will Cook phoned to town for her folks to come home. Everyone started for home and not any too soon to save the farm buildings of Herman Schultz, Eugene Moffatt and Walt Amidon. The men fought fire until two o’clock in the morning and all day Sunday. Everything is so dry and with a good wind the fire is liable to break out again.

Jimmie Wood has a Ford car.

Mrs. Will Dux spent Sunday with Mrs. Lon Cook.

Harry Moffatt, K. Haskins, Lon Cook, Mr. Bruny and Will Dux and family spent Sunday evening at the F. Beulow home for a visit with their son Willie before he returned to camp.

George Hetzel and wife have moved here and are settled on the Jim Paulus farm.

Will Dux and Jim Carskadden are building a barn for H.B. Parker.

Henry Collins is home from the western harvest fields.

W. Warner is enjoying a visit from his son before he is called to the colors this month. Mrs. Warner is in Colorado this month visiting her son.
