Rabenstein, Maurel (Airplane Accident – Oct 1918)
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rabenstein received a letter Monday from their son, Lieut.
Maurel Rabenstein, who is a flying instructor at the San Diego field. He wrote
that the other day he was principal in a nasty accident, but one which was very
fortunate for him. He was up 3500 feet and was attempting to make a different
style of landing, when a gust of wind struck his machine and spilled him to the
ground. Maurel fortunately escaped in the smash-up without injury, but his plane
was broken beyond repair. Lieut. Rabenstein has been flying now for a year and
this was his first accident in that time.
