Olga Catherine Volarich was born on August 30, 1924, in Willard, WI, to Joseph
and Justina (Gaberscek) Volarich. She grew up on the small family farm, where
she was born and raised, and enjoyed telling stories that her father shared with
her about Slovenia.
Olga was married to Stanley Volovsek on June 10, 1944. They later divorced in
1976. Olga worked as a certified nursing assistant for nearly 20 years,
beginning her career at the Neillsville nursing home and ending after 15 years
of service at the Clark County Health Care Center retiring at age 70. Prior to
her work as a nursing assistant, she was a "mom" and homemaker, raising three
children, tending a large garden, working as a bookkeeper for Stanley's Cabinet
Shop, and preparing food for countless shop parties.
Mom (Grandma) left a legacy for her children and grandchildren that included;
the art of making potica and apple strudel, love of animals and nature, hard
work and doing your best, independence and determination (sometimes referred to
as Slovenian stubbornness), and survival skills. Grandma loved attending any
events that involved her grandchildren and she traveled many miles to
volleyball, basketball, and softball games.
Olga was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
She will be dearly missed by her three children, LaVerne (Sharon) Volovsek of
Rice Lake; Jack (Sue) Volovsek of Wausau; Peggy (Ed) Yurkovich of Willard; her
grandchildren and great grandchildren, Wendy (Andy) Hable (Alex and Aselin),
Jodi and Jeff Arrowood (Rachel and Dominic), Sara (Brendan) Fouts (Anna, Justin,
Caleb, Seth, Damien, and Monica), Kurt Volovsek, Kristine Volovsek, Amy
Yurkovich, and Kimberly (Mike) Anderson (Cassidy, Emily, and Jonathan).
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mary (Frank, Jr)
Volovsek.
