Schmidt, Mr./Mrs. Alvin W. (Gold – 25 JUN 1968)
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin W. Schmidt observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary June
25, 1968, and celebrated the event with a family reunion at their home on June
30. An evening dinner at the Medo-Farms Restaurant in Abbotsford concluded the
occasion.
The anniversary couple were presented a carnation boutonniere, a corsage of
yellow and white mums, and the traditional decorated wedding cake centerpiece,
by their children.
Alvin W. Schmidt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Schmidt, was born at Chilton, Calumet
County, on June 18, 1893. His wife, the former Martha Lemmin, was born April 5,
1892, to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lemmin at Cleveland in Sheboygan County.
He attended school at Chilton and she received her schooling in Colby.
The couple married at Colby June 25, 1918, at the Reformed Church, presently
known as the First United Church of Christ, with Rev. Albert Scherry
officiating.
Their attendants were Alvin's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Schmidt of Denmark, Wis.
The couple farmed east of Colby until their retirement in 1954, when they moved
to town.
They are the parents of five children, all of whom were present for the
celebration. They are George of Colby, Harold of Tripoli, Mrs. Whitney (Elva)
Olson of Townsend, Mrs. Rueben (Dolores) Streich and Mrs. Harry (Grace) Gomeny,
both of Milwaukee.
They have sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
The Schmidts enjoy good health and Mr. Schmidt loves fishing and hunting, while
Mrs. Schmidt enjoys braiding rugs, sewing and fancy work. Both are lifetime
members of the church where they were married.
The Scmidts were guests of honor on Sunday, June 23, of their son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Schmidt, for a get-together of neighbors
and friends to celebrate their golden wedding event.
