Geiger, Sp 5 John P. (Military Notes - 1973)
Sp. 5 John P. Geiger, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norbert B. Geiger, Rt. 1
Dorchester, participated in the Readiness command’s exercise “Brave Shield VI”
in western Texas and southern New Mexico.
The three-week training exercise, involving army, air force, army reserve and
army and air national guard troops, included ground maneuvers at Ft. Bliss,
Tex., and a mock air war concentrated over White Sands Missile Range, N. M.
Joint training of U. S. based combat ready army and air force conventional
forces are a major part of the mission assigned to the Readiness Command at Mac
Dill Air Force Base, Fla. Through exercises such as “Brave Shield VI,” the
command insures that its general purpose combat forces are ready when and if
needed to reinforce other U. S. Unified commands.
Sp. 5 Geiger is an air traffic control specialist with Headquarters Troop, 1st
Squadron of the 1st Cavalry division’s 9th Cavalry at Ft. Hood, Tex.
