Rowley, Mr. and Mrs. George (Golden - 26 December 1973)

A family reunion dinner highlighted the Golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. George Rowley, Rt. 2 Loyal. A tiered wedding cake centered the table at the education building of the Loyal United Methodist Church, Sunday. Forty were seated for dinner and approximately 50 more called on the honored couple during the open house from 2 to 5 p.m. that afternoon.

The former Gladys Herdrich, daughter of Charles and Matilda (Paetow) Herdrich, is a native of the Town of Loyal. She and George Rowley were married at her parental home by his uncle, The Rev. August Knaak, on December 26, 1923. They lived at Park Falls for three years before returning to the Loyal area.

Mr. Rowley was born at Evanston, Il., and came with his parents, Jacob and Annie (Knaak) Rowley, to Loyal in 1913. For a number of years he was a meat cutter at a local store and had engaged in farming. Prior to his marriage he had served in the National Guards. During the summer months he does some fishing along with keeping busy with the vegetable and flower garden.

After 26 years of teaching in public schools, Mrs. Rowley limits her teaching to a Sunday school class at the loyal United Methodist Church where she is a member. She had graduated from the Oshkosh Teachers College in 1920.

Among the special guests was Edward Rowley, attendant for his brother 50 years ago. He and his wife drove from Kansas City for the event. Mrs. Rowley’s sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Victor (Florence Herdrich) Dietz, Mt. Carrol, Il., and their daughter, Mrs. Diane Appel, Chadwick, Il., also attended.

The celebration was planned by the Rowley’s three children and families. They are Donald Rowley and Daryl Rowley, Loyal and Mrs. Claire (Ilene) Schlinsog, Kenosha. All but two of their sixteen grandchildren and one grandchild were present. Unable to be present were Sally Schlinsog Shelton of Germany and Judy Rowley of Milwaukee.
