Matthews, John E. (9 April 1883 - 22 December 1951)
John E. Matthews passed away on Saturday, December 22, 1951, at 4 a.m. at the
Krohn Hospital. He had suffered of asthma and dropsy for years and had been more
seriously ill of late. His patience and thought of others thought his long
illness won him the admiration of his family and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Masonic Temple, conducted by the Rev. Wayne L.
Grover, on the Monday following his death. John E. Matthews was born in
Fairchild, Clark County on April 9, 1883. He has spent most of his life in this
community.
He is survived by his wife, seven daughters and three sons, who deeply mourn the
loss of a good father. His daughters are: Mrs. Donald Pedrick, of South Beloit,
Ill.; Mrs. Earl Taylor, Beloit, Wis.; Mrs. Kenneth Hulett, of Hixton; Mrs. Syver
Gilbertson, Mrs. Earl Traylor, Mrs. Walter Kidrick and Martha Matthews, all of
Black River Falls. His sons are: Frank and John, of Milwaukee, and Roy, at home.
He is also survived by 27 grandchildren and two sisters: Mrs. Phillip Grohs, of
Milwaukee, and Mrs. Frank Wallace, of Green Bay. They were unable to attend his
services.
The sympathy of the friends of the family is extended to his wife and children
as they mourn his loss.
