A barn on the Louis Gadke farm, five miles west of Unity on Country Trunk K, was
destroyed by fire early Monday morning.
The barn was a total loss, but animals that were in the barn were saved, along
with some machinery. Hay and other feed was included in the loss.
The fire was discovered in the hay mow shortly before 7 a.m. Both the Spencer
and Loyal fire departments responded to the call, and prevented damage to other
nearby farm buildings.
The Colby fire department was also called, but was unable to respond, as the
farm is located beyond the services area.
