Walde, Dale Ellis (New Year’s Baby - 3 January 1974)

The New Year’s Baby of 1974 at Memorial Hospital in Neillsville is a brother of the 1973 New Year Baby.

He is Dale Ellis Walde, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Walde, Jr., of Rt. 2 Greenwood, and he arrived January 3, 1974, at 2;31 p.m., tipping the scales at eight pounds, three ounces, and measuring 21 inches long.

Dale Ellis’ sister is Denise, who celebrated her first birthday the day before his arrival. The New Year Baby of 1973, she was born January 2, 1973.

The Walde’s have one other child, a son, Donald, who is “a little over two years old,” Mrs. Walde says.

Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Walde, Sr., of Willard, and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Engevold of Loyal.

Dale’s mother attended Loyal High School; his father went to Greenwood High School. He presently is employed at Barr’s Mink Farm, west of Greenwood.

On Saturday afternoon The Clark County Press photographer visited Memorial Hospital to take a picture of the New Year Baby and his mother. It was not until after the picture-taking was completed and the photographer was gathering vital statistics concerning Dale that it dawned on him that he had taken a picture of Mrs. Walde in the same context sometime in the past.

“Didn’t I take a picture of you and a New Year Baby a year or two ago?” he inquired.

Both Mrs. Walde and Miss Paula Mueller, obstetrics supervisor at the hospital, laughed.

“Yes,” both replied at the same time, “you took one last year.”

“Then,” responded the non-plussed photographer, “shall I make an appointment now for the next year?”

“No,” Mrs. Walde emphatically replied.
