Gress, Elsie (20 June 1888 - 6 January 1974)

Funeral services were to be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the United Methodist Church for Mrs. Elsie Gress of Neillsville, who died January 6 at the age of 85. The Rev. Melvin Nickel was to officiate, and burial was to follow in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gress, the daughter of Oscar and Fredericka (Sturzig) Anding, was born June 20, 1988, in the Town of Lynn and was educated there. As a young girl she did house work, and was later employed at Gress’s Restaurant, located in what is not the Neillsville Appliance Center.

She was married to Sherman Gress October 21, 1908, in Neillsville. The couple farmed in Pine Valley and he also did house and building moving. After Mr. Gress’s death in 1937, she made her home with her daughter and son-in-law for 14 years.

Mrs. Gress worked at Auto Test and then for the Marshfield Egg Processing Plant for two years, returning to Neillsville when she retired. She was a member of the Neillsville United Methodist Church and of its U.M.W. Society, of the Royal Neighbors of America and of the Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include three children, Arthur Gress of Rt. 1 Neillsville, and Mrs. Herman (Gertrude) Hagedorn and Donald Gress of Neillsville; a sister, Mrs. Helen Harriman of Owen; three brothers: Richard Anding of Pontiac, Mi., Charles Anding of Neillsville and Alfred Anding of Mayville. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
