Washburn (10 January 1974)
Harold Moennig suffered another heart attack New Year’s Day and was taken to
Memorial Hospital, where he continues quite ill. Mr. Moennig is the owner of
Washburn store. Everyone hopes he will soon be back on the job. A son from
Illinois is assisting Mrs. Moennig and family with the work.
Mr George Gorbet will entertain the Cannonville Ladies Aid Wednesday, January
16, with dinner served at noon, weather permitting.
Mrs. Donald Kerscher was to entertain the Washburn Homemaker Club Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Smith are building a new garage this winter. It’s almost
completed now.
Mrs. Ted Kissling slipped and fell down an embankment last week when she and her
husband were ice fishing. She fractured three ribs. She is getting along nicely
and continues her employment at Memorial Hospital.
Arnold Huth, Sr., who was a surgical patient at Memorial Hospital for several
weeks, returned home in time for Christmas and is slowly improving.
Bible study was held at the Albert Lincoln home Thursday night. It will be held
at the Lyle Cary home in Sherwood this (Thursday) evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Kissling and family of Ann Arbor, Mi., spent Christmas with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Kissling.
Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Krause and daughter, Cheryl, of Menomonee Falls, spent from
Saturday until Monday last week with her mother, Mrs. Irving Stevens, and his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Krause. Other recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Krause were: Mrs. Roger Krause and family of Markesan, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace
Krause and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Krause and daughters, Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Quast and family and Mrs. Irving Stevens. They had a belated Christmas
observance.
Dr. and Mrs. Ell (Skip) Lee and family of Green Bay spent last weekend with her
brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kissling, and her mother, Mrs.
Harry Kissling. Mrs. Harry Kissling planned to spend Christmas with the Lee
family, but due to the snowy and rainy weather, didn’t make the trip.
Mr. and Mrs. Leland Dopp and daughters, Linda and Judeen, of Marshfield, Mr. and
Mrs. David Vine and Mrs. Irving Stevens were New Year’s Day guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Urban.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lincoln, Francis Lincoln and Ed Falgenhauer spent a day with
their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Tannem and daughters, Lorraine,
Jean and Norma, in Minneapolis, and had a belated Christmas, as on Christmas Day
roads were slippery from snow and rain.
Rev. Ralph Schram of Alma Center called Friday at the Mrs. Art Odell home.
Mrs. Delores McNeil and son, John, of Streamwood, Il., spent Saturday and Sunday
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Havlicek, Sr.
Mr and Mrs. Jim Kapfer of West Bend spent from Wednesday until Friday with Mr.
and Mrs. Oliver Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Kapfer, Mr. and Mrs. George Sherwood
and her mother, Mrs. William Poler, at Memorial Home. They also visited his
brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Timmler, near Loyal, Friday.
Mrs. Roger Krause and family of Markesan spent Christmas and New Year’s Day with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Havlicek. Mr. Krause came after them New Year’s
Day.
Mrs. Art Kuechenmeister was a recent supper guest of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Kissling,
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Kingsbury were Sunday evening visitors at the Kissling
home, also.
Mrs. Elmer Kapfer attended a meeting of the Ladies Aid of the Granton United
Methodist Church last Thursday. Ruth Pietenpol was hostess.
Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Vandeberg of Wisconsin Rapids were recent guess of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Williams.
Jack Kapfer of Janesville spent a few days last week with his aunt and uncle,
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kissling and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kapfer.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Galbreath of Sharon called on Mrs. Art Odell Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schultz of Wind Lake joined Mr. and Mrs. Richard Schultz and
family last Saturday at their trailer home and spent New Year’s there.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Steponik of Pray were New Year’s night guests of Mrs. Wanda
Pretsch, and son, Earl. Harry Carstenson was a New Year‘s dinner guest at the
Pretsch home.
Mr. and mrs. Chester Turville were supper guests Thursday of Mr. and Mrs. Ted
Kissling.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schultz and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Schultz and family of Wind
Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Reinart and Kent Lonning were New Year’s guests of Mr.
and Mrs. John Reinart.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Schlinsog of Granton called on Mrs. Art Odell Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Grimm of Stratford were dinner guests Thursday of Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Havlicek, Sr.
