Courtney, Richard D. (19 JAN 1955 – 28 AUG 1968)
Funeral services were held August 31, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church in Colby for Richard Courtney, 13. He died as a result of a tractor
accident near his home on Aug. 28, 1968.
Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Colby, with the Rev. John Olson officiating
at the services. A general rosary was held Friday evening at 8:30.
The St. Mary's choir sang during the services. The 4-H group, of which he
belonged, provided an altar guard. Altar boys were Dan Froeba, Billy Gottschalk,
Jeff Brown, James Schraufnagel and James Firnstahl.
Pallbearers were Leo Hayunga, U.S. Navy, James Farley of Minneapolis, David
Blume of Pemberton, Minn., John Courtney of Jonesville, Minn., Terry
Schraufnagel of Colby, and David Judd, Kilkenny, Minn.
Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby was in charge of arrangements.
Richard was born in Waseca County, Minn., on Jan. 29, 1955. He has lived with
his parents in the town of Hull (Marathon Co., Wis.) since the family moved here
in 1962.
He has been an active member of the Cherokee Chums 4-H group.
Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Courtney, and seven brothers and
sisters, all at home. They are Kenneth, Alice, Linda, Dean, Monica, Roger and
Andrea.
His maternal grandparents are also surviving.
Attending the services folks came from Hawaii, Minneapolis, St. Paul, Pemberton,
Janesville, Waseca, Le Center, Morristown, Kilkenny and Princeton, Minn.,
Thiensville, Wausau, Loyal, Unity, Colby, Abbotsford, Dorchester and
Stetsonville.
