Syth, James Charles (21 August 1888 - 9 January 1974)
James Charles Syth, 85, Greenwood died Wednesday morning January 9 at the
Memorial Home in Neillsville, where he presided since February 1973.
My Syth, son of James and Emma (Teel) Syth, was born August 21, 1888 in the Town
of Eaton. He received his education in the Eaton Center School. He was married
October 1, 1912, to Martha Gries in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood. She
preceded him in death November 27, 1969.
In 1914 the couple moved to New York state, where they farmed for four years
before returning to Greenwood. They farmed south of Greenwood and later operated
the Pine Ridge tavern for several years. In 1950 they moved to Jim Falls, where
they owned and operated the Pine Ridge Resort. In 1968, due to ill health they
came back to Greenwood, where he lived ever since until going to Memorial Home.
Surviving him are one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Anderson, Clairmont, Ca.; and one
brother, Arthur Syth of Greenwood.
Funeral services were held Saturday January 12 at 2 p.m. at the hill Funeral
Home in Greenwood. The Rev. Leander Koopman officiated. Burial was made in St.
Mary’s Cemetery.
