Humbird (17 January 1974)
Grandma Scholze, 88, fell and suffered a fracture of a hip last week. She was
taken to the hospital in Black River Falls, and then was transferred to an Eau
Claire hospital. It is reported that she is responding very well to treatment
and says, “I’m going to walk again.” Good, her friends are all with her.
Mrs. Art Laffe is still a patient in the Black River Falls Hospital, where she
underwent major surgery. Her mother, Mrs. Grace McCready, also is a patient
there. She was injured in a bad fall, but there was no broken bone.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Laffe spent last weekend in Green Bay at the home of her
sister, Mrs. Kurt Schlei. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Ben Clouse of
Loyal.
Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Sieg and Mrs. Laura Dignin were dinner guests Sunday of
Rolla Sieg at Fairchild.
Mrs. Judy Staves and girls of Lakeland spent a few days recently with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Newell, and called at the Donald Staves home.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Olson of Taylor visited Sunday with Mrs. Emma Gerber.
Word has been received of the death of Phillip Feyen last week at his home in
Arkansaw. Mr. Feyen was a former resident of the Houghtonburg area.
Mr. and Mrs. Dewayne Parent and Steve drove to Thorp Sunday to spend the day
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pirl Burrington.
Mrs. and Mrs. Earl Zimmerman visited Sunday evening with Mrs. Anita Markham.
In word received from the Heins, Mr. Hein is coming along very well and Mrs.
Hein is now gaining and responding to treatment.
Mrs. Roy Johnson came home Monday from the Marshfield hospital, where she had
surgery, and is feeling as good as can be expected.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Laffe were dinner and supper guests in the Harold Losey home
in Fairchild Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Perle Pickett were supper guests Sunday at the Bernard Burnett home
in rural Hixton.
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Polege were weekend guests of the Fricky Theiler’s at Cataract.
The senior citizens, the Admitters Club, will meet Friday, January 18, at 1:30
p.m. All are welcome.
The guild of St. John’s church met Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Marion Osborn
with a good attendance.
Mr. and Mrs. Perle Pickett visited Thursday evening at the Lloyd Meyers home in
Neillsville.
The United Methodist women met at the home of Mrs. Joy Sieg Thursday. Plans are
being made for a service in January for a “World Day of prayer and Self Denial.”
All churches are invited to attend. A collection will be taken for the Missions.
