Everett was born on September 24, 1932, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, to Arlow
Dunbar and Theresa Ann Hale.
He attended high school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He then went on to graduate
from Wisconsin Teacher’s College, Milwaukee (now University of Wisconsin,
Milwaukee) and then studied Law at the University of Wisconsin, Madison where he
graduated in 1961 with a Doctor of Jurisprudence.
Everett married the love of his life, Pearl B. Wayerski in Milwaukee, Wisconsin,
on November 27, 1965.
He enrolled in ROTC 1952, and served in the army infantry during the Korean War
from February 1956 until June 1957 where he attained the rank of Captain.
Everett worked as an Attorney for his entire career including private law
practice. He served as City Attorney in Manitowoc and La Crosse, Wisconsin. In
1981, Everett began working in Taylor County where he would work until his
retirement in 2006. He worked as Assistant District Attorney, Family Court
Commissioner, and County Corporation Counsel. As the Family Court Commissioner,
he enjoyed performing many wedding ceremonies. Everett was able to share his
love of history by teaching classes at local community colleges. Everett was a
member of the Knights of Columbus at Holy Rosary parish where he also enjoyed
his bible study group. He was very committed to practicing his Catholic faith
and passed those values on to his family.
To say Everett was a military history buff would be an understatement. He
enjoyed collecting military artifacts and sharing their history from a young
age. One of his favorite Saturday activities was what he would call “making his
rounds” and visiting with the patrons and owners of local gun shops and taking
his daughters to gun shows. He was also an advocate for pro-life issues and used
his retirement to defend those who cannot speak for themselves with articles and
opinion pieces. Most importantly he and Pearl made a home where his family knew
they were always loved and accepted no matter what.
Everett was a member of the Wisconsin Bar Association, Knights of Columbus, Holy
Rosary Catholic Church and the Penny Club.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl B. Hale of Medford; children Ann (Brian)
Bergmann of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, Barbara (Matthew Richlen) Hale-Richlen of
Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, Linda (Kevin) O’Brien of Colby, Wisconsin, and
Jennifer (Adam Derr) Hale of Silver Spring, Maryland.
Everett is the proud grandfather of Lauren and Alexander Bergmann; Pierce, Grant
and Ava Richlen. He is also survived by many beloved cousins, nieces and
nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, Arlow Dunbar and Theresa Ann Hale; siblings
Arlow Hale and Helen (Hale) Roth.
