deKennen, August (7 November 1888 - 18 January 1974)

A retired postal department employee, August deKennen of Neillsville, died January 18, at the age of 85. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning from St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gerald F. Schuh officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery. The Rosary was recited Monday evening at the Georgas Funeral Home, where the body of Mr. deKennen was in state.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. August (Bertha) deKennen, Sr., he was born November 7, 1888, in Switzerland and came to the United States at the age of nine. He lived in the Milwaukee area, and then worked at the county hospital at Oshkosh.

His marriage to the former Edna E. Quast took place September 19, 1917, at Greenwood. Mrs. deKennen died June 6, 1969. After his marriage, Mr. deKennen worked for the postal department. He came to Neillsville in 1948 and made his home here since that time.

Mr. deKennen was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, of the Retired Postal Employees Association and of Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post No. 73. A veteran of World War I, he enlisted August 6, 1917, was discharge May 21, 1919, and served for a time overseas.

There are no immediate survivors.
