Donald Koerner of rural Dorchester was named the outstanding young farmer in the
area in a promotion sponsored by the Abbotsford Jaycees.
The selection and announcement were made at a banquet Monday night at the Flame
Supper Club.
Three other finalists were Gordon Lynn of Unity, Frank Beran of Milan and Gerald
Pinter of Abbotsford.
Selection of the outstanding young farmer was sponsored by the Jaycees as part
of a national program of recognition. The credentials of the winning selection
will be sent on to competition at the state level, and from there, national
awards will be made.
The four finalist were selected from a list of all young farmers living within
the Colby and Abbotsford school districts. Questionnaires were completed by the
young men regarding net worth, increases in value of farm operation,
conservation practices, management, community service, and other phases of
community life and farm operations.
Included in the award to Mr. Koerner was a plaque and a $25 savings bond.
