Washburn (31 January 1974)
Several from this vicinity attended the funeral of Mrs. William Poler, 82, in
Neillsville last Thursday. The Poler family lived in this vicinity several years
ago before moving to Neillsville.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Weirich of Ironwood, Mi., spent last weekend with their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Moennig and family and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Weirich.
Monday, Mr. and Mrs. Weirich, accompanied by her mother drove to Madison, where
Mr. Weirich had a checkup. Harold Moennig, who had been a medical patient in the
Veteran’s Hospital at Madison for a couple of weeks, returned home with them. He
seems to be recovering nicely from his recent heart attack.
Mrs. Walter Trachte will entertain the Washburn Homemakers club February 13 with
dinner served at noon. The ladies will take Valentines for their secret pals.
The club members also plan to go to the Bryan home February 14 for a Valentine
Party and will help entertain the patients.
Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Trachte and family of Stoughton spent Friday night and
Saturday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Trachte. Saturday night and
Sunday they visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grim, in Stratford, and helped her
father celebrate his birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Barth of Nekoosa called Friday at the Mrs. Art Odell home. They
also visited her brother-in-law, Art Opelt, in Levis.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kapfer were in Marshfield Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kuhn visited last Thursday evening at the Merle Austin home.
Jack Urban and daughter, Brenda and Clarence Reinart, went ice fishing to
Trempealeau last Saturday and had very good luck. They came home with their
limit of fish.
Mrs. Harry Kissling spent last week in Green Bay with her grandchildren, while
their parents, Dr. and Mrs. Ell (Skip) Lee, went on a skiing trip to Colorado.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kapfer and Mrs. Leon Mathews of West Bend, and Mrs. George
Sherwood, spent Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Williams. Jim Kapfer also
visited his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kapfer, Friday. Mr.
and Mrs. Williams entertained several of their relatives last week. They were
here to attend the funeral of their mother and grandmother, Mrs. William Poler.
Mrs. Jack Urban called on her mother, Mrs. Irving Stevens, Friday.
