Order Dor-Abby attached to Colby
The Dor-Abby School District was ordered dissolved and attached to the Colby
School District in action taken by the joint county school committee of Clark
and Marathon counties following a public hearing held at the Colby high school
gymnasium Thursday evening, Aug. 16.
The committee also gave the residents of the two districts the choice of
accepting or rejecting the action at a referendum.
A combined district would have a total enrollment of over 2,000 students with
well over 600 in a four year high school.
Little testimony was given opposing a merger either now or in the future, but
most agree that a consolidation rather than a dissolution of Dor-Abby would be
the best method of joining the two districts.
The Dor-Abby district was formed a year ago by the consolidation of the
Abbotsford, Dorchester, Pleasant Hill and Brady school districts, and the past
year several other districts in the area had been attached to it by committee
action.
The Colby High School district was organized the past year and is in its first
year of operation. It had operated in the past as a union free high school
district.
