Scott, Raymond Harry (24 JUL 1921 - 30 AUG 2015)

Raymond Harry Scott, age 94, died at Asprius Hospital Medford, Sunday August 30, 2015.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday September 12, 2015 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford, WI, with Father Phil Juza and Deacon Joe Stefancin, officiating. Interment will be at the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Medford, WI.

Visitation will be 9:30 AM until the time of services at 10:30 AM, Saturday September 12, 2015 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Raymond was born on July 24, 1921, Corning, Iowa, to Walter Harry and Teresa (Dowling) Scott.

He graduated from Law School, at Marquette University, Milwaukee.

Raymond married Ruth Mary (Kelly) Scott, October 9, 1948 in Antigo, WI. Ruth Mary preceded Raymond in death, in 2003.

He served his country in the US Navy, enlisting in 1942. He was deployed to the Pacific theater from 1943 – 1946, serving as a Beachmaster. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant (J.G.). He then attended Creighton University, and received his AB Degree from there, and then went on to Law School at Marquette University. He practiced law in the town of Medford, and was one of the founding partners of Nikolay, Jensen & Scott Law Firm in 1956. He retired from his practice after 50 years in 2006. Raymond served as the District Attorney of Taylor County for 8 years, serving from 1951-1959.

Raymond was instrumental in the development of the Medford to Prentice Pine Line Trail, in which he served Pro Bono as the attorney for the trail. In 1992, he received The Life Time Achievement Award from the Medford Area Chamber of Commerce. Raymond had a passion for music. In high school he was the head master of “The Owls” orchestra. Once he moved to Medford, he had a jazz band that played at the Fayette Hotel. Raymond enjoyed swimming with the “Early Morning Splashers.” He also loved to bike, curl, playing tennis, and spending time boating at his cabin on Lake Holcombe. He was an avid football fan, especially for the Green Bay Packers.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, President of the Board of Directors for Memorial Hospital 1962-1965, Chairman of Board of State Bank of Medford 1972-1991, President of Midway Telephone Company 1967-1990, Knights of Columbus, Lifetime Member of the Medford Curling Club, and both the American Legion and VFW Posts of Medford.

Survivors include children James Scott of Medford, Michael Scott of Fox Point, WI, Maureen Scott of Phoenix, AZ, Patrick (Lydia) Scott of Viroqua, WI, Terry Scott of Medford, Tim Scott of Hammond, WI, Dennis (Amy) Scott of Larkspur, CA and Kevin (Mary) Scott of Lake Elmo, MN, grandchildren Sarah, Adam, Jonathon, Justin, Kelly, Spencer, Sydney, Mara and Sofia Scott. He is also survived by a brother, Wayne Scott of Boulder, CO.

Raymond is predeceased by his wife Ruth Mary, parents Walter Harry and Teresa (Dowling) Scott, and siblings, Anita Akin and Bernice McCarthy.

OTHER INFORMATION: In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations in honor of Raymond Harry Scott may be made to Holy Rosary Catholic School.
