Scott Needham, junior at Loyal High School (Clark Co., Wis.), was the local
winner in the Mathematics Association of America Contest held on Feb. 5, 1970.
He will compete at a higher level in the final state contest at Wis. State
University, Eau Claire, on March 14.
Approximately 28,000 students took the preliminary test on Feb. 5. Of these,
1161 will be permitted to participate in the second level.
Each student receiving the top score in his school will receive a certificate of
merit, as well as an award of a book on some topic in mathematics.
