Colonel Earl D. Raab, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse M. Raab, was presented the
Meritorious Service Medal, the nation's third highest peacetime award, on
Friday, Feb. 21, 1970, by Major General James A. Weir, Fitzsimmons General
Hospital commander for exceptionally meritorious service as Chief Purchasing and
Contracting Branch, Fitzsimmons General Hospital, since July 1967.
Coming at the end of more than 28 years of active Federal Service, the citation
stated that "Colonel Raab was faced with an increased procurement workload due
to the influx of casualties from Southeast Asia. Displaying great technical
expertise and exceptional managerial ability, he realized the procurement
workflow to insure the most efficient methods and techniques were used to
accomplish the Purchasing and Contracting Branch's Mission."
Visiting Colonel Raab and attending the retirement ceremony in Denver, Colorado,
was his daughter, Frances Kae Raab from Marshfield, Wis.
