Becker, Otto L. (26 AUG 1936 - 6 AUG 2015)
Otto L. Becker, 78, of Altoona, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2015, at his
home in Altoona, while under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.
Otto Becker was born on August 26, 1936, in Marshfield to Otto and Gertrude
(Wittlinger) Becker. He was raised on a farm southeast of Owen and attended a
one room school until 1950. The family moved to Owen and he graduated from Owen
High School in 1954.
After attending vocational school in Minneapolis for one year he began
employment as a traveling depot agent for the Soo Line Railroad. He had a
permanent agent job in Forest Park, Illinois for two years before being drafted
into the Army. Otto was stationed in Augsberg, Germany for two years as a radio
teletype operator with an Army Aircraft Maintenance Detachment. While in Germany
he was able to travel to London, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Brussels, and Venice.
After his discharge he worked in Owen as a depot agent for the Soo Line Railroad
and then at Badger Shooters Supply for 29 years followed by Colby Metal for 10
years.
He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jane Strohkirch in October
1963, later had two children of whom he was very proud.
Born to this union were, Christopher (Jody) Becker and Beth Nicks. He is also
survived by his three very special grandchildren, Brady Nicks, Katie Becker, and
Riley Nicks.
Otto was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, he attended his first game in 1958 and
was thrilled to get season tickets after being on a waiting list for 29 years.
He enjoyed bird and deer hunting and also had great interest in reading,
especially books related to war history. He kept a beautiful lawn at his home.
The family would like to thank Barb and Kelly from St. Joseph's Hospice for
their special concern and care. A private service for family will be held at a
later date.
