Kallstrom, Mary Ann (10 MAR 1938 – 10 SEP 2015)
Mary Ann Kallstrom (77), Abbotsford, WI died on September 10, 2015 surrounded by
her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was born at home in Rusk County, Wisconsin to Steve and Kathryn (Kennedy)
Krisik on March 10, 1938. She grew up on a farm, one of fifteen children, and
graduated from Glen Flora High School in 1955. On June 2, 1956 she married Lyle
Kallstrom at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Tony, Wisconsin. They moved to
Minneapolis and she supported Lyle through dental school. Their first son
William was born while they lived in Minneapolis. Upon graduation from dental
school, the family moved to Cameron and Mary Ann and Lyle established a dental
practice. It was there that their second son David was born. The family then
moved to Abbotsford where they had a dental practice for over 30 years and three
more children: Nancy, Sandra, and Carol.
Mary Ann was always there for her family. She enjoyed spending her days with
Lyle in the cabin they built on the Flambeau River. Mary Ann was an excellent
cook and had a knack for making ordinary days special with delicious meals and
wine. She loved having her family stay at the cabin. Many memories were made
playing cribbage, enjoying meals on the deck, rafting down the river, listening
to country music around the campfire, watching fireworks over the river, and
sledding on brisk winter days.
For the past four years Mary Ann exhibited amazing strength and perseverance in
her battle with cancer. She endured much and complained little. Her devoted
husband of 59 years was beside her and took care of her every single day of her
illness. Words cannot express how much Lyle will miss her.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, James, Patrick,
Raymond, and Donald Krisik; and one sister Faye Lazar. She is survived by her
husband Lyle; sons William (Lois) Kallstrom, David (Laurie) Kallstrom; daughters
Nancy (Robert) Nikolay, Sandra Kallstrom, and Carol (Sean) Brown; grandchildren
Clara Kallstrom (Ryan Niemuth) and Matthew Kallstrom; Nicholas (Paige)
Kallstrom, Allison (Curtis) Jones, Lucas Kallstrom; Kyle and Connor Nikolay, and
Kathryn Hulce; two great-grandchildren, Maya Niemuth and Tess Jones and two more
on the way. In addition she is survived by her sisters Lois Suchla, Joan
Prasnicky, Kathryn Mae Sands, Bonnie (William) Boivin, Bernadette Beam, Diane
(Dan) Simpson; brothers Phillip, Michael, and Ronald Krisik; brother-in-law Ray
Lazar, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to the caring staff at Aspirus
Wausau Hospital and Clinics, especially Dr. Peterson, Dr. Clancy, nurses Darla,
Jen, Jason, and all the oncology nurses who took such good care of her.
Following Mary Ann's wishes, a private service will be held at a later date. In
lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mary Ann's name to the Aspirus Health
Foundation - Aspirus Regional Cancer Center at 425 Pine Ridge Boulevard, Wausau,
WI 54401 or online at www.aspirus.org/Main/Make-a-Doation.aspx
Mary Ann's legacy is the family that she loved. She showed them loyalty and the
everlasting bond of being a family. Her selfless and resolute spirit will live
in them until all are together again.
