Legion Ladies Auxiliary Recognizes Members for Service

Neillsville Legion Post 73 Ladies Auxiliary and the many hours they spent

The Neillsville legion Post 73 Ladies Auxiliary met Sept. 7 at the Legion Hall.
President Karen Hoppa conducted the meeting, with assistance from Secretary Roni
Kaczor-Smith and Treasurer Sylvia Hopfer.
A report was given on a recent gathering of the family and friends at
Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation (NCR) honoring Bernice Kalsow and Marge
Short, who both spent many years in the Auxiliary and volunteered many hours at
the Legion. Those in attendance enjoyed cake and coffee. Hoppa presented
certificates of appreciation for their service.
Bernice worked for 27 years as a nursing assistant at Memorial Medical Center.
She has been a resident at NCR for six months.
She married Don Kalsow in 1990. She had six children, Frank, Dennis, Terry,
Rick, Linda and Cindy.
Her first husband, Frank, and sons, Frank, Terry and Rick have passed away. Don
is also deceased.
Marge worked in the family fur business with her husband, Dale. They were
married in 1946. Dale has passed away.
They had two children, Wayne and Lorraine. Marge has one grandchild and two
great-grandchildren.
Marge has been a resident of NCR for two months.
Both gals enjoy playing Sheepshead.
The Auxiliary also recognized Gladys Rychnovsky for her service. She has been an
Auxiliary member for 68 years.
She was married to John Rychnovsky. They owned Rychnovsky’s Garage in
Neillsville for many years. Gladys worked as a secretary. She also worked in the
probation and parole office for 45 years.
Her children are John, Donna and Mike. She has five grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren.
Gladys currently resides at Stoney River Memory Care in Marshfield.
Members discussed a successful brat feed held recently at Gordy’s Market.
Proceeds also included money from Thrivent.
Plans are being made for a rummage sale to be held at the Legion Wednesday, Oct.
14, and Thursday, Oct. 15.
