Larsen, Mr. and Mrs. Walter (40th - 12 February 1974)
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Larsen of Neillsville were honored Sunday morning, February
10 at the 10:30 a.m. Mass celebration by the Rev. Charles D. Brady at St. Mary’s
Catholic Church. The day marked the observance of the Larsens’ 40th wedding
anniversary.
Forty relatives and friends were seated for a 12:30 p.m. anniversary dinner at
the Wildcat Inn west of Neillsville. Approximately 150 more called on the
honored couple during the open house held from 2 to 5 p.m. that afternoon.
Helen and Walter Larsen were married February 12, 1934, at Belvidere, S. D. the
childhood home of Mrs. Larsen. They came to the Neillsville area March 8 of that
same year and engaged in dairy farming. Upon their August 24, 1966, retirement,
they moved to the city.
Their son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Larsen have purchased the large,
modern dairy farm east of Neillsville and are continuing its operation.
Mrs. Larsen is a native of Belvidere, where she lived on a large cattle ranch
and taught in a small country school for five years.
Walter Larsen was born in Cottonwood, S. D. At the age of three, he moved with
his parents to the Shortville area where he attended school and grew to manhood.
The Larsens are members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and are active in church
affairs and members of the church societies.
The observance Sunday was planned by the couple’s three children and families,
all of Neillsville. In addition to their son, Dennis, another son, Douglas,
operates the Moraine Motel and is a bulk oil distributor. Their daughter, Mrs.
Robert (Jean Larsen) Chadwick, and her husband have a large dairy farm in the
Christie area. The Larsens’ ten grandchildren were also present for the event.
Those attending the anniversary observance included the following from
out-of-town: Mr. and Mrs. Francis Cooley and son James and Mrs. Anna Dooley,
Chicago, Il.; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Elmer, St. Paul, Mn; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Kodel,
Minneapolis, Mn; Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Aasen, Juneau; and Mr. and Mrs. Argil
Steigen, Rosholt.
