Ehlert, George W. (6 Nov 1890 – 1918)
The many friends were greatly shocked to receive the sad death of one of our
soldier boys, George W. Ehlert, who died of pneumonia shortly after arriving
overseas. George was born at Crystal Lake, Ill., Nov. 6, 1890, and when a mere
lad his parents moved to this locality, which has been his home since. He
received his education at the Columbia School, and took the short course at
Madison University one year. His work has been chiefly along agricultural lines.
The past few years he has been employed as cow tester. George was an industrious
young man of splendid habits and sunny disposition and he will be greatly missed
by his many friends. He married Miss Amelia Anderson of Wheeler, Wis., May 15,
1918, and on May 20, 1918, was called bravely to his country’s call. After
spending a few months training at Camp Joseph E. Johnson, he embarked for
Europe. Shortly after landing he found that God’s call had preceded his
country’s call.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Ehlert,
three sisters, Louise, Laura, and Marie, and a brother, Carl, who resides at
home, also a brother, Arthur Ehlert, of Beaver Dam, Wis., and a brother, Erick
Ehlert, who is now in training. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the
entire community.
